Hungry Javelina

Altho Javelinas are common in this area, this is the first time we have seen them around our property. There were at least two of them on the patio. One came up and looked in the window. There were the usual deer nearby, but they didn't seem to want to mess with the javelinas.

Appears to be a Collared Peccary.

This is new to me. At first I assumed they were pigs. We have them in the mountains around Coalinga.

I don't recall them getting up into Northern NM. Do they?

Collard Peccary is indeed the proper name. They are called Javelinas locally.

Marjane reports seeing Javelinas at Pinetop. I have not heard of any in the Santa Fe area
